About our Sangha

Our Sangha was founded by our senior dharma teacher Vinh Nguyen (Chan Ngo) in 1992. Vinh was ordained as a member of the Order of Interbeing in 1987 and received the Lamp Transmission from Thich Nhat Hanh in Plum Village in 1994.
There are 12 members of the Order of Interbeing and three dharma teachers in our Sangha, and many more committed practitioners who have undertaken the 5 Mindfulness Trainings. In 2025, Sheila Robertson received the Lamp Transmission from Plum Village. In 2014, Andre Vellino, Mihaela Andronic, and Laureen Osborne received the Lamp Transmission from Thich Nhat Hanh.
Welcome Newcomers

Newcomers are welcome to our Sangha, please read the practices page consult the current schedule for details about when and where we meet. Feel free to contact us at pagodasangha@gmail.com. The Pagoda Sangha also has Google Groups mailing list to which only attendees to the group will be added.
To respect and support our collective energy of practice, we ask everyone who attends the Sangha in person to wear modest, loose-fitting clothing that cover the shoulders, midsection, and knees even when sitting in a meditative posture (no shorts, tank tops, or leggings), and to avoid wearing perfumes or other products that may affect those who are sensitive or allergic to fragrances.
Weekly Schedule
The Ottawa Pagoda Sangha meets once a week at 7pm on Wednesdays at the Church of the Ascension on Echo Dr. (see directions). Please arrive a little earlier than that so that you and we have the time to settle down. If you arrive later than 7pm please wait outside the church hall until the first 20 minute sitting meditation is finished and walking meditation begins. Please consult the current schedule for details.
